With two wins under their belt, it was a confident u15 team that turned up at Davisons to face Aldwick.
Aldwick won the toss and, despite still waiting for 2 of their players, elected to field. Fortunately for them their 5th player turned up before the start and we loaned a player temporarily to fill the fielding gap.
Aldwick opened with 2 great bowlers, keeping our opening pair on their toes, unfortunately for us taking the first wicket when we had just 14 runs on the card. We kept our heads and despite a further wicket at 21 runs we battled. Pausing the game only to find sweep the floor quickly and find another ball when Nick sent a No Ball careering into the protective cover of a projector. Each batsman put in a stint at the wicket; facing some very strong bowling and tight fielding. Eastergate managed to get 108 after their 10 overs.
Going out to field Eastergate knew they had work to do to achieve a win. Swift and reactive fielding from Thijs and Harry secured a run-out wicket on the second ball of the innings, followed in the second over by another wicket - Harry C taking the credit this time with a clean bowl - and a further run out in the 3rd over -giving Eastergate a great confidence boost. Aldwick managed to get 30 runs on the board before Thijs took 2 wickets on consecutive balls - the first a batsman drawn out of his crease and stumped, the second an attempt to sneak a ball past the keeper but played onto his own stumps. This left Aldwick with their last man standing, who despite Eastergate bowlers throwing their all into claiming the last wicket managed to see the overs out.
Final score Eastergate 108, Aldwick 76.
A great game played in great spirit by both teams. The enjoyment of the game was evident and the sportsman like behaviour on both sides was exemplary. Well done to everyone involved.
