Horsham Trinity CC 4th XI made the short trip to Eastergate for a friendly against Eastergate CC 3rd XI and, after winning the toss, chose to field first.
The decision paid off almost immediately as J Sanders struck in the opening overs to remove K Booker for 14. Although A Booker and R Geraets then rebuilt the innings with a fluent partnership, Trinity continued to chip away with regular wickets throughout the innings.
A Booker played an excellent knock of 65 from 64 balls, striking eight boundaries and keeping the scoreboard moving at over a run a ball. At the other end, R Geraets anchored the innings superbly, reaching a deserved maiden century from just 88 deliveries, including 13 fours and two sixes. Finishing the innings on 237/6.
Horsham Trinity’s walked out to P Edwards claimed two wickets, while W Lake, R Whiteside, A Booker, A Huin-Wah and R Thompkins all picked up one apiece. The standout bowling performance came from I Booker, whose excellent spell of 3-5 from two overs helped slow any gains Horsham Trinity had latter overs.
It was also a memorable day for several ECC players. Adam made his senior debut for the club and marked the occasion in style with his first senior wicket, while Reuben and Will also celebrated their maiden senior wickets in a strong all-round bowling display.
The innings eventually closed on 126 all out, with Eastergate’s fielding playing a huge part in keeping the score under control. There were some outstanding catches taken across the innings, with Samuel, Josh, Pete, Roman and Adam all producing excellent moments in the field to back up the bowlers superbly.
A big thank you to Rob Lake for stepping in to score the batting innings, while Baz’s help with umpiring was greatly appreciated and helped the game run smoothly throughout the day.
