ECC 1st XI vs Steyning CC, 2nd XI

01 June 2025 | Joe Edwards
ECC 1st XI vs Steyning CC, 2nd XI

The second away game of the season saw the boys travel to Steyning to compete in what could be a tough game. Andy won the toss again and elected to field on a very slow pitch.

Openers Henry and Josh done their jobs once again with the ball with Henry picking up 2 wickets in his spell him and Josh restricted the Steyning top order. Craig and Jamie would then replace the openers again this pair carried on the momentum with Jamie getting a wicket caught by Curt at short cover. Craig also joined the party with 2 wickets one being caught at short mid wicket by Joey and the other being bowled. Harvey and Brad were the selected death bowlers Harvey picked up 2 wickets with one being bowled and the other being caught by Brad. Steyning finished 181-7 after their 40 overs, overall this was probably the best bowling and fielding performance of the season so far from the lads so a great effort in the field.

Liam opened once again but he was joined by Brad on this occasion. Liam was quickly dismissed by the Steyning opener as he was caught behind for 6. Henry was in at number 3 and himself and Brad were looking to rebuild again. The pair hit multiple fours between them before Brad was caught in the slips for 15. Curt joined Henry in the middle but Henry departed after being caught in the slips for 13. Curt then welcomed Joey to crease and a partnership was needed if the gate were going to have any chance of winning this game. Curt hit some fours before being bowled by a good ball for 17. The skipper came out to the crease and made a quick fire 8 before getting caught by a top edge. Dan joined Joey in the middle and both of these boys batted well together seeing them create a 74 run partnership before Joey hit the ball into his own foot and it rolled back into the stumps. Joey made 46. Harvey was then welcomed by Dan but the local star was given out to a very dodgy LBW decision for a well made 32. Craig joined harvey at the crease before Harvey was given out LBW for 0. Jamie was the next man in and then Craig was bowled for 9. Josh and Jamie were now at the crease together again looking to repeat last weeks heroics. Sadly it wasn’t to be for the boys as a mix up in the middle saw Jamie ran out for 4. Eastergate 176 all out.

Special Mentions: Henry 2-24 & 13, Jamie 1-46, Craig 2-23, Harvey 2-18, Brad 15, Curt 17, Joey 46 & 74 run partnership with Dan, Dan 32 & crucial partnership.

The boys are at Home on Tuesday night in the T20 slam against Arundel and then Home again next Saturday versus Findon.
