Eastergate CC delivered an exciting all-round performance in a thrilling contest against Arundel CC
Batting first, Eastergate posted an impressive 252 all out from their 40 overs. The standout innings came from Ian Paine, who played an absolutely magnificent knock, finishing not out on 120 from just 94 balls. His innings was a masterclass in power and precision, including 21 boundaries and 2 sixes, and provided the backbone of the innings.
He was well supported by Roman Geraets (21 off 30), Nick Wright (15 off 15), and Millie Grant, who added a vital late contribution with a fluent 19 from 22. Kirsty Booker also chipped in with a tidy 12, at the crease. The top order played selflessly around Paine, setting a solid platform for the final push.
In the field, Eastergate’s bowlers responded with great energy and teamwork, holding Arundel to 206 in their allotted overs. The bowling unit shared the wickets around, with Thom Radford (2 for 30) and Chris Radford (2 for 29) leading from the front. Millie Grant (2 for 38) showed her growing confidence and control, while Jon Arman grabbed a key wicket.
Alexander Arman and Nick Wright bowled economically, keeping the pressure on, with Alexander especially tidy at just 4 runs per over. Pete Edwards also picked up a valuable wicket in his spell with a brilliant catch by Millie Grant.
It was a competitive, spirited match played in great conditions. Eastergate can be proud of the resilience shown across all departments. With Ian Paine’s memorable century and a solid collective performance.
